My Approach...
..... is to focus holistically on the development needs of both you and your horse. Nothing functions in isolation when it comes to your horse everything has an impact on their advancement and understanding of the world..!
I work to develop a responsive horse that can process and understand whatever is required and not a reactive one that acts out of fear or confusion. Concentrating especially on in-hand work to develop co-operation, trust, suppleness and ultimately a relaxed balanced horse, whilst maintaining a clear focus on the well proven training scale to achieve progressive results.
Lunging and work in-hand develops an anatomically correct free moving, balanced and rhythmically stretching horse, without the use of artificial aids or gadgets. It helps towards training the horse to find its own balance and correct posture whilst achieve the necessary muscle development to create a back capable of carrying the rider without long term damage or soreness. Horses have not evolved to carry the weight of the rider so therefore they need to be trained to use and develop the relevant muscle groups along with the supporting ligaments.
I also offer help and instruction to enable the rider/owner to understand the importance of the correct balanced position on their horses back with an independent seat and soft yielding hands, so as not to hinder the horse and allow them freedom of movement that further develops balance, self carriage all with happiness and trust.
A horse which is free of pain, discomfort and happy in its environment is always going to be far more attentive to the presence of the trainer rather than whatever might be troubling them. A pain free and comfortable horse is the result of optimum nutrition, adequate shade and shelter, correctly balanced hoof trimming or shoeing, regular dental examinations and very importantly the correctly fitting tack.
